 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

JOMDC is built on a foundation of Authenticity, Vibrancy, and Awareness for the dancers we serve.  We all are here to grow and learn through our experiences.  Therefore our reach goes beyond offering classes as we address the wholistic well-being of individuals (of all ages) who enter our doors.  Providing rich experiences for our students and the community is key to our mission. Please view the following program highlights. As we move forward we welcome your ideas and suggestions to build what will be the heartbeat of our institution.

Program Overview 

Joy of Motion offers a robust program for youth, teens, and adults through classes, camps, workshops, master classes and more. Youth classes are available for students age 18 months to 14 years as enrollment classes for Fall, Winter, Spring, and/or Summer terms. Teen and adult classes are available as drop-in classes in a variety of styles, giving maximum scheduling freedom. Special workshops and masterclasses are offered throughout the year to give intensive instruction in a particular style.  Joy of Motion also offers special programs throughout the year for both youth and adults. 

Musical Theater Ensemble

Musical Theater Ensemble holds auditions twice yearly for students age 8 years and older. Students in the Ensemble will have two classes/week in addition to weekly rehearsals. Students will perform throughout the DC area at formal shows and community events. Students in this program will strengthen skills in dance, theater, and vocals, while also learning production elements and enhancing performance quality.

DC Street Dance and Culture

Explore DC STREET DANCE AND CULTURE! We invite students 8 and up to experience the rich DC cultural styles that have impacted the world. Classes will include Street Fusion, Beat Ya Feet, DC Pom(Band Dance), and Bucket Percussion on Saturdays from 1-5 pm. Each class focuses on a different aspect of DC Street Dance and Culture and will be taught by experienced instructors. At the end of the Spring session, students will participate in a culminating performance. Collaborating with the world-famous Beat Ya Feet Academy and other DC artists, this “beyond the class” program will note the contributions and history of DC’s own GoGo music and dancers .

PAP 

Our Professional Advancement Program is be open to new and emerging artists and includes free resume review, free headshots, audition prep sessions, and workshops and panels to help artists move forward in their careers. Program participants are selected via applications and are committed to an 8-month program to develop career skills.

Special Events 

Every other month, parents will be able to sign their kids up for our Parents Night Out, an evening where parents can relax as their kids enjoy games, pizza, and fun with friends.  These events are free to the first 15 students  so early sign-ups are encouraged.
